Ch. Drummerboy Horatio Hornblower
aka
“Hummer”
It is with deep and profound saddness that I must report to you that our most beloved and loyal friend and contributor to this websiste has passed on while we are in the development and production of this website.
Hummer’s exploits during his life as shared with his friend and constant companion Billi B, both in a personal and professional (show dog) capacity are the founding basis for this accumulation of experiences and knowledge.
This morning dawned as any other day, with bright expectation and fun filled tomfoolery. Quick to want out in the morning, busy with his stuffed ball of many years, eager for toast (or whatever breakfast might bring) and as always ready to meet the day head on was the daily routine of this special canine friend.
Noontime brought a nap for this gentle bulldog as at 10 years last December, a nap was a prudent thing to do mid day it would seem. And then with a stretch and a drink he would head for a quick jog on the treadmill and out into the yard with both of his closest friends Billi B and Jamie. A romp around the yard, some chase and run with the kids and then back into the studio, where the dt4us crew was filming.
Hummer was ever at the ready to participate in picture taking! Today however, it was not his turn. When he reached the door to the studio he suddenly stopped, we called him and he just stood stock still with an odd look on his beautifully leathered face. He came into the room and his back end gave out after several steps. His heart gave out. In very short order the peace of another realm washed over him and he was gone, leaving behind the many who deeply cared about him.
Through the good times, through puppyhood and on into old age (we have never thought of him as old because even the morning of the day he died he gave no indication of being anything other than healthy and full of life) he was always Hummer. Affectionate, kind, and ready to play gently with the young puppies; loyal and true to his human family, guardian of hearth and home is how he will always be remembered. His swimming pool will now stand idle, his stuffed ball will take its rightful place alongside his collar and his ashes, retired to the memory wall in the kennel.
He will be always in our hearts and remembered for the magnificent champion of our hearts that he was. His legacy will continue in his offspring, but perhaps more importantly in our determined completion of this webste; his legacy of knowledge for all to share.
